In many ways, my favorite place is the one I haven't been to yet.
intro You were forged in a world of shadows, where blood stains every path you walk. Gold and glory once called to you, yet you found them hollow, their taste bitter with emptiness. What you seek now is not fortune, but meaning; a purpose behind each battle, a reason for the road you wander. You are Gareth Maelgwyn, the prince among mercenaries. Your journey is not to rule others... it is to learn what it means to be king of your own life.
rule i. I can roll with whatever writing style you use, so don't feel like you have to write long paragraphs if that's not your thing. Short replies work fine too as long as it keeps the flow going. rule ii. I'm pretty open when it comes to ships, but I won't do any with minors; writers or characters. I'm fine with NSFW as long as it's between adults. I'm cool with romance and smut, even without a big plot behind it, though I do enjoy it a lot more when there’s actual chemistry involved. It just feels more rewarding that way. rule iii. I'm not specifically seeking out fighting or violent roleplays; I'm mostly here for something casual. Feel free to send me a dm if you want to plot something regarding this though. I am pretty much open to it if discussed properly. rule iv. I really like the idea of Gareth hanging out with anyone no matter their background. I want him to meet all kinds of people, build bonds, go on adventures, and make memories (good or bad). Basically, I want him to grow through his experiences. So if you see me in Ul’dah (or anywhere) with my RP tag on, feel free to come up and start something, or just shoot me a tell first. Most of the time I'll be the one to approach, since I'm not great at just idling around waiting for someone to poke me.
rule v. I'm based in Southeast Asia, so I'm usually online at different hours than peeps in America/Europe so you'll probably see me less in-game at peak hour if you're over there. If you need my Discord, I'll share it. I don't mind roleplaying there since I can't be logged into the game 24/7 because of work and real-life stuff. rule vi. It should be obvious by now that IC ≠ OOC. I'm not my character. I'm here to write for fun and hopefully make friends with other writers. I'm totally fine keeping our relationship strictly in-game without OOC. If things just don't click, let's be civil about it and move on. Basically, remember your roleplaying etiquette.
❝I think, Am I figured out? Is this all I'll ever be? Or do I take the risk and try something new?❞

personality Gareth is depicted as a kind and principled man, deeply devoted to the ideals of chivalry. Though he carries himself with the poise of a noble, he rejects excessive formality, favoring honesty and directness over ceremony. His demeanor is often cheerful and approachable, allowing him to easily connect with others; some even regard him as a natural smooth talker.Of course, Gareth isn't perfect. His wit and sarcasm usually get him into trouble, especially when dealing with arrogant people or when he feels the need to stand up for someone. He admits that his mouth often works faster than his thoughts, and his emotions can spill over in heated moments.Behind his cheerful personality, Gareth tends to reflect on his life when he's alone. He often wonders if the path he's chosen is really the one he wants, or if he's simply wandering without direction. This struggle between his ideals and his personal doubts is a big part of what defines him.

biography Gareth Maelgwyn was born at sea aboard a merchant vessel en route to Limsa Lominsa. He was discovered as an infant wrapped in sailcloth, abandoned on the ship's deck. The identity of his mother and father remains unknown since they had disappeared without any trace before the crew could find them. With no family to claim him, Gareth was carried ashore by the sailors and given a name by the crew who had found him.Raised among Limsa's docks and back alleys, Gareth grew up surrounded by seafaring life, and the rough camaraderie of sailors. As a boy, Gareth relied on odd jobs, scraps of work, and brawls fought for food. The city taught him to value pragmatism over pride, and wit as a weapon as sharp as steel. He survived not through protection or lineage, but through adaptability. Despite this, he gained a reputation among dockhands and mercenaries for his golden hair, disarming charm, and effortless charisma. Word of mouth transformed into tavern songs, and soon he was dubbed the "Golden Prince" - a moniker that clung to him throughout his career.By early adulthood, Gareth had begun working as a mercenary, first with small crews in Limsa and later across Eorzea. His height, presence, and natural charm allowed him to navigate contracts with both civilians and cutthroats, while his discipline in combat earned him a reliable reputation. Though trained and skilled, Gareth was equally known for fighting dirty when circumstances demanded it; a reflection of his upbringing among Lominsan pragmatists. He fought in numerous conflicts too, including participating in the battles surrounding Ala Mhigo's liberation, where his unusual conduct on the battlefield earned him both respect and further cemented his reputation as a "prince among mercenaries." Gareth himself, however, rejected the legend, privately regarding himself as little more than a killer carrying a borrowed crown.
mercenary's lament. You come across Gareth somewhere along the road, and there's a look in his eyes that hints at some unspoken weight he carries. Maybe you offer him a drink, strike up a conversation about the mercenary's life, and swap stories or doubts that mirror his own choices. fellow lominsan seafarers. He fights with the skill of a knight but carries the grit of a pirate. Maybe he's an old friend... or maybe a rival. Cross paths with him, and you might uncover what pushed him to take up the sword and walk away from the home he once knew.stormblood. You've heard the tales of Ala Mhigo’s liberation, maybe you even fought in the battles yourself. They say he was there in the final push, a strange figure cutting through the battlefield with honor.
